CANNING SHOW & EXHIBITION TALENT SUCCESSES CELEBRATED
CANNING SHOW BREAKS CROWD RECORDS
With many agricultural shows around the state fighting to maintain relevancy over the past decade, the Make Smoking History Canning Show this year defied the downward trend – and the challenges the stormy first night of weather threw at us – by achieving a record-breaking crowd. With well over 10,000 attendees, the community-driven, not-for-profit event saw a rise of nearly 50% more people through the gates.
Cannington Agricultural, Horticultural and Recreational Society Inc (CAHRS, who put on the annual event) CEO Dianne Begg remarked, “Whilst theweatherfrowned, we were happy to see so many smiles turn up, with the diversity of ages, backgrounds and interests giving the Cannington Exhibition Centre & Showgrounds all the warmth we needed.
“We celebrated 110 years with two nights of firework and a new vision for the future, going back to basics. Seeing kids young and old having as much fun with natural play elements like hay, sand and making worm farms as they did with the rides and showbags was inspirational.
“A HUGE thank you to our 70+ volunteers, tireless staff, engaged community groups, 500+ talented exhibitors, supportive partners and the attendees for contributing to a Show filled with entertaining spectacles, quality exhibitions and unique experiences.
CAHRS Event Officer Joanne Reavell added, “What a fabulous year CAHRS have had, with four big events throughout the year, ending on a high with our biggest Canning Show in many years. With ZAP Circus-taught tricks from the kids, motorbikes high in the sky, science activities a buzz and all the faces painted, we look forward to further building on many of the changes made, and next year adding even more fun to the Show!”
