The Canning Show is one of the largest annual exhibitions in the state that showcases a wide array of arts, crafts, hobbies, creations and produce. Open to everyone, from talented amateurs to awarded artisans, the competition is there to celebrate, promote, reward and encourage diverse passions and talents, plus inspire others in the community.

Whilst the COVID-19 situation is preventing us from 100% confirming whether the dates will go ahead as previously announced for the Canning Show (currently planned for Friday 6 & Saturday 7 November 2020), we can confirm that we are opening some of the classes early; providing the perfect distraction from all of the craziness in the world right now. There’s simply never been a better time to be creative and learn some new arts, crafts or hobbies!

All efforts will be rewarded, with all entries to be exhibited at the next Canning Show, and giving all entrants the chance to win over $13,000 cash in prizes, plus more!

Online/digital/social media exhibits are also planned, with more details to be released shortly, so there will be many ways for your work to be rewarded and shared with the community.

This year’s theme

The United Nations has declared 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). The year is a once in a lifetime opportunity to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and boost economic development. FAO estimates that up to 40% of food crops are lost to plant pests and diseases annually. This leaves millions of people without enough food to eat and seriously damages agriculture.

Healthy plants are a critical resource because of the many ways they support life on Earth. They are the source of the air we breathe, most of the food we eat and natural protectors of the environment. Now, more than ever, is the time to celebrate and draw attention to these important ecosystems, so we are excited to announce a series of classes celebrating this theme that you can get a headstart on right now!
