This year will be ‘Fruit & Vegetable’ themed for a range of special classes in the Exhibition. LIVELIGHTER CANNING SHOW EXHIBITION WINNERS REVEALED

The LiveLighter Canning Show 2020 saw nearly 15,000 tickets snapped up, record-breaking attendees and sold-out Sessions, heralding a new age for this key community event. The Exhibition has very much been the heart and soul of the Show for 110+ years, and was a huge hit with thousands over the course of the Show. With all seats taken at the Presentation Evening & Awards this Saturday just gone, we are now excited to reveal the winners of one of WA’s biggest community-focused Exhibitions.

The Exhibition proved the perfect catalyst to ignite people’s creative spark, discover and celebrate the community’s talents, and to provide a much-needed distraction for what has been a tumultuous 2020 for many. 285 people entered the Canning Show Exhibition, ranging from 2 to nearly 100-year olds, amounting to a total of 2,244 exhibits.

Cannington Exhibition Centre & Showgrounds’ main Exhibition Hall hosted a classy three-course affair for distinguished guests, award-winning exhibitors and Cannington Agricultural, Horticultural and Recreational Society Inc (CAHRS) committee, members, volunteers and staff frocking up in colourful jungle-themed attire. In-between performances from DJ Snake Mountain, African Oz Drum ‘N’ Dance and Gobbles The Gorilla, the applause was loud for some of the best entrants showcased at this year’s Canning Show Exhibition.

No stranger to the Awards stage, Ron Seaton took top honours, taking out the George H Wilson Perpetual Award, awarded to the exhibitor with the most points gained from placements overall. A veteran entrant with a formidable garden, this is the seventh time he’s won the award, adding it to a cabinet already packed with wins in 2003, ‘06, ‘11, ‘12, ’16 and 2019. With all his entries in the Flowers plus Fruit & Vegetables sections, Ron’s bag of awards included 30 first places, 5 Champion placings and a total of 185 points.

Alice Johnson also made a big impression for someone so small, the Under 12-year-old taking home a swag of awards to honour her creativity in an extremely diverse array of classes. A perfect example of how the Exhibition is for everyone, and anyone can have a go and improve their skills.

CAHRS CEO Dianne Begg applauded, “From recycled craft capturing more people’s imagination to our infamous Flower Hall blooming brilliance, this year’s Exhibition showed the positive things that have been created and nurtured in 2020. The International Year Of Plant Health brought attention to important messages in visually impressive ways. All in all, we felt lucky to still be able to host this important part of the Canning Show, which at many points this year we thought would not be possible. We thank the community for their support and can’t wait to showcase even more debut entrants next year!”
